April Slater

SpiritFusion is honoured and excited to introduce you to April Slater, Indigenous hand drummer who will be singing us through our yoga practice at the upcoming ‘7 Natural Ways of Healing’ Yoga retreat.

April is Cree from Peguis First Nation, Manitoba, Canada. She has been singing traditional ceremonial and pow wow songs for seven years and started writing her own music four years ago. When she writer her music she gains inspiration through ceremony, nature and those closest to her. Eight years ago April was encouraged by her older sister Crissy Parisian to explore her traditional Cree roots and she had realized that music was her most natural way of learning and leading. April is one of the four members in the women’s singing group called ‘Oogima Ikwewok’, along side her sister Crissy.

April continues to be inspired by her beautiful son as well as Indigenous women such as Delia Waskawitch, who is well known for her round dance singing.
